The Upright Readings

disruption, abandonment, end of a friendship, bankruptcy, downfall, unexpected events, Sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, awakening

This card is a 'no' negative card. Disruption, abandonment, end of a friendship, bankruptcy, collapse, unexpected events, sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, awakening

The Reverse Readings

entrapment, imprisonment, old ways, rustic, Personal transformation, fear of change, averting disaster

Everything may be adopted against you. You might be trapped in all the above things. If you are imprisoned, the rustic ways will be adopted. But don't be afraid, this is an act of churning. The time has come for your transformation. You may fear change but change will be certain. It is easy for you to avoid any kind of disaster. Have some patience. Once you go through this churning process, then your golden time will come. This will be the 'bottom line' of your life. Next to this, there will be work to rise again. Like a bird 'Phoenix,' you will rise from the ashes and rise again in the sky. Have faith in yourself.

The Tower

‘The Tower’ is a card again misunderstood by the artist. The artist was unable to understand its meaning.

Let us study the images in the card. A Tower is in the middle of the card. A flash of lightning from the sky and the tower have caught fire.

A woman is thrown out at the left of the tower and a man is thrown from the right side of the tower. They have a scary face. The woman has the crown on her head. A big crown cover of the tower is open and supposed to fall any time.

Some small golden leaves are falling in the background.

The original Ancient Indian Tarot card tells a different story.

It is a giant concept, it is larger than life! It is Manthan.

The tower is a Meru Parvat. A mythological mountain was used as a churner to churn the ocean of Milk. Vasuki snake was used as a rope. Then 14 auspicious things came out. On the left side, it is female from Lakshmi and on the right side, it is male from Dhanvantari. The artist mistakenly described it as if someone is falling from the tower. The falling leaves are the remaining 14 auspicious things coming out from the Milk Ocean to run the universe. The churning has happened between Gods and the demons.

(please read the detailed story.)

When the Gods lost their powers as Sage Durvasa cursed Indra, the demons took this as a great opportunity to attack Heaven. The Gods were powerless and thus lost the war and fled away from heaven to save their lives. They went to Brahma to seek help, then to Vishnu.

Vishnu proposed to the Gods to make a peace proposal with the Demons in exchange for something valuable. The Gods thought it over and went to make that proposal with the Demons. After agreeing to their truce, the Gods and Demons could then churn the ocean of milk (Kshira Sagar) for Nectar. Vasuki, serpent, was the rope and the Mandara Mountain was the churning rod.

As directed by Vishnu, both the Demons and Gods started to carry the mountain. But the mass of the mountain was hefty, and most of the Gods and Demons became too exhausted. Seeing this, Vishnu and Garuda lifted the mountain and placed it in the middle of the ocean.

Since Vasuki couldn’t come there in the presence of Garuda, Vishnu asked Garuda to leave. To provide balance, Brahma was requested to sit on the top of the mountain. Demons and the Gods summoned Vasuki, and they coiled Vasuki around the mountain as a churning rope.

Demons did not want to take the tail part of the snake. Gods agreed to hold the rear end.

The mountain started sinking in the water. Then, Vishnu incarnates the tortoise, Kurma Avatar, into the water. He holds the Mountain on his back. Vasuki breathed smoke and blazing fire, and that affected the Demons, gradually decreasing their power.

After churning for years, the first item to come out was the poison. Both Gods and Demons started to collapse because of it.

Shiva agreed to consume the poison. While drinking poison, Devi Parvati held the poison on Shiva’s throat. Thus, Lord Shiva was called Nilakantha, as the poison turned his throat into the blue.

Gods and Demons again resumed the churning process. Then, after churning for a while, a cow Kamadhenu appeared.

Then, seven-headed flying horse Uccaihsrava appeared. King Bali took it.

Then elephant Airavata came out, Lord Indra took it.

Then Kaustubha - Mani the valuable jewel in the entire universe. Gifted to Lord Vishnu.

After that came the Parijat flower was taken to heaven by the Gods. The Nymph, Apsaras came after that, which was led by Rambha, Menaka, Punyasthala, and others. The Nymph, Apsaras chose the Gods as their companions. Then, Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, appeared, who accepted Vishnu as her eternal consort. The Demons claimed alcohol, Varuni, which came after Laxmi. Then the moon came which adorned Shiva’s head. Shankha the conch of Vishnu appeared. Dhanvantari, the God of Ayurvedic medicine, appeared with the Nectar.

Then, there again was a struggle between Demons and the Gods to snatch the Nectar. Four drops of the Nectar fell at four different places: Allahabad or Prayag at Uttar Pradesh, Haridwar at Uttrakhand, Ujjain at Madhya Pradesh, and Nasik at Maharashtra. So Kumbh Mela is held after every 12 years at one place (thus comes after every 3rd year, somewhere in India.)

The struggle continued. Vishnu took the form of the beautiful damsel Mohini who mesmerized the Demons with her beauty and told the Demons that she would distribute the Nectar among the gods and the demons in a fair manner. The Demons did not realize that they have been fooled. She was only distributing the Nectar to the Gods.

Rahu converted as a god and sat among the Gods. Sun and moon noticed and informed Vishnu, Mohini. Mohini cut off his head with the Sudarshana Chakra. But Rahu was able to gulp some Nectar. So, he did not die. Since then, his head is called Rahu, and the body is Ketu, which then formed as planets.
